A postdoctoral research position in Environmental Chemistry/Environmental Geochemistry is available for April/May of 2009 in the research group of Professor Myna Simpson at the University of Toronto (Scarborough Campus).

The successful candidate will participate in molecular-level studies of organic matter-mineral interactions; contaminant interactions with soil, and/or environmental metabolic profiling (metabolomics). Successful candidates will have access to state-of-the-art NMR and MS equipment in the Environmental NMR Centre which houses two unique, hyphenated 500MHz NMR spectrometers specially designed for environmental applications. Prof. Simpsons research laboratory recently moved to a new research building with new labs and office space for group members as well as dedicated instrument rooms. Prof. Simpsons research laboratory houses a fully automated LC, GC-MS and GC-fraction collector as well as other support equipment.

Requirements

More information about the Simpson group can be found at: www.utsc.utoronto.ca/~msimpson. Applicants should have a PhD in Analytical/Environmental Chemistry, Organic/Environmental Geochemistry, or Soil Chemistry. Applicants must have a strong background in analytical techniques such as GC-MS and NMR spectroscopy for full consideration.

Application

Interested applicants should send a CV, a 1-page research statement of their proposed area of research and a list of at least 3 names and contact information of people who can provide references to Prof. Myrna Simpson (myrna.simpson@utoronto.ca). The appointment will be made for a 2-year period with the potential for renewal for a third year if the performance of the postdoctoral fellow is adequate.

Only candidates with a strong publication record and expertise in environmental chemistry will be considered.
